Twin-rail mortise and slot jig for router precision
Quit wrestling a wandering router. This mortise and slot jig secures your trim router between two anodized aluminum rails, locking the bit to a fixed parallel path so you can create mortises, grooves, and hidden-fastener slots along the board edge with no wobble or tear-out.
Crooked mortises aren’t a talent issue—they’re a setup flaw. Compact routers often lack a true edge guide, and many aftermarket clamps slip under load. NovaCraft keeps the cut true by delivering flush, dual rails that grip the stock and resist drift from start to finish.
Twin anodized aluminum rails clamp to both sides of your stock, guiding the router along a parallel path from first cut to last so drift is minimized and consistency is improved.
Four knurled thumbscrews let you fine tune the bit’s edge distance for centered mortises, offset grooves, or concealed-fastener slots—all from one jig without shims or calculations.
A transparent 1/4-inch acrylic base lets you view pencil marks, the bit, and the stops, so you plunge exactly where you planned every time.
Fits most 63.5–65mm barrel diameter trim routers—including Makita, DeWalt, Bosch, Milwaukee, and Ryobi palm and trim models—and requires no drilling or modification. The kit includes a 1/4-inch shank straight bit (11mm diameter, 30mm cutting length, 60mm total length) ready for hinge mortises, biscuit slots, and 8mm/10mm hidden-fastener grooves right out of the box.
Compared with generic edge guides, the NovaCraft system provides tracks that stay parallel under pressure, a stable aluminum rail build that won’t flex, and durable knurled thumbscrews that remain tight through vibration. The acrylic base resists knocks and resin, letting you lean into the router without edge drift.
| NovaCraft Mortise & Slot Jig | Freehand / Chisel | Generic Plastic Edge Guides |
|---|---|---|
| Tracks perfectly parallel on edge with twin aluminum rails | ❌ Wanders, depends on steady hands | ❌ Single rail, distorts under pressure |
| Cuts mortises & concealed-fastener slots from one setup | ❌ Separate tool for each cut | ❌ Mortising only, no slots for fasteners |
| Fits 63.5–65mm trim routers — Makita, DeWalt, Bosch, Milwaukee | ❌ N/A | ❌ Often router-specific, brand-locked |
How to use
- Insert the trim router into the clear acrylic collar and hand-tighten the side clamp until the barrel is secure.
- Press the twin aluminum rails against both sides of your stock and tighten the four thumbscrews so the bit is fixed on a precise path.
- Power on, plunge to the required depth, and guide the router between the stop marks to complete a mortise on the first pass.
